about me.
Hello!
My name is Anita Phillips and I currently live in the beautiful city of San Francisco, California with my husband and two dogs. I grew up in Camarillo, California a small town half way between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. I ventured up to the Bay Area for college and attended Santa Clara University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with an emphasis in teaching secondary education.
Currently, I am in my sixth year of teaching high school social studies. The past five years I taught in Los Angeles at an all girls school, Notre Dame Academy. In those five years I wore several different “hats” at one time or another including but not limited to: teaching World History, United States History and AP United States History, serving as the school's online bookstore coordinator and as the Dean of Students for the last two years. This past June my husband and I decided that we wanted to move up north. Luckily, I was able to find a social studies teaching position at a much larger co-ed high school, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory.
I decided to enroll in Purdue’s LDT program because I want to be able to design exciting curriculum for my students that incorporates more technology in my ever- changing classroom. I already use a variety of technological tools in my teaching, like the learning management system schoology, but I would ultimately like to create an online version of all my courses. I am constantly inspired by the changing technology in our society especially living in San Francisco so close to Silicon Valley. I am hoping that this program not only supplements my pedagogy but also affords me the possibility of making a transition into the business world of education technology.
